countryheart: Being a Dad can be tough
Being a Dad can be tough

Here comes spring..or at least I hope so. I need to get my son out of the house..Apt and get him to doing something. Now at 14 he just knows it all.. Yesterday we were at each other constantly. He has chores and for some reason at his mom's he does them and when he gets to my place he thinks its "ClubDad"
I know it is tough to be 14. Heck I think it is tough being 47 sometimes. He does have anger problems and he spouts off things he really doesn't mean but it gets him in hot water. A kid from a divorce is tough anyway. I saw it with my step daughter. I do my best to show him love and let him know I am there for him. The balance between being strict and being a loving father. We watch the TV shows and he notices bad behavior from other kids and makes remarks. I draw on those remarks and point out that any kid can be that way if they so choose.
His mom wonders why he wants to be with me all the time. I wonder sometimes as well as much as he always seems to be unhappy when he is at my house. He says he is always getting yelled at. Bad part is. I saw it with my Dad and his dad my grandpa. I saw it with me and my dad..and now me and my son. I told him last night. I try very hard to break the chain. I see how strict my grandpa was with my dad and that was passed down to me from my dad and I really dont want to be like that. He knows he has a lot of latitude but he also knows the rules and he seems to dance right up to them at all times. I suppose he is a risk taker and I wasn't. I was the good guy in school and if I let out a cuss word even my friends would make note. "What??? you cussed?"
Recently he was suspended from school. It was a prank he pulled to try and show off to the other boys. Earlier in the year he did something similar and was suspended so now twice in the same year. 8th grade.. the oldest in the middle school. Next year he will try and fit in as a freshman.
So here I am enforcing the rules. Being the bad guy. But also trying to show that I do care and I do love him. When all is said and done I hear him say.."I'm sorry Dad!.. I love you.." I tell him the same.. and today we start a new day..
Being a Dad can be tough.. but.. I am SO Damn lucky to have a son. AND to have a Step Daughter who knew I was tougher on her. She tells me every time how much she loves me. And when you see how well they grow up.. it makes you Proud!
good Luck parents.. do your best..don't get down.. Love your kids.. Love yourself..
And.. God..send me someone to love! I am a good guy...
